The next meeting of the Toronto Computer Lawyers' Group (TCLG) is being held on Thursday, May 17, 2012, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the offices of Miller Thomson LLP, 5800-40 King Street West, Toronto. Lunch will be served at noon and the presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m.TOPIC: "Information Technology and E-Commerce In Conversation with Industry Canada: An Update on Canada’s Anti-spam Legislation (CASL)"
In December 2010, the Federal government enacted Bill C-28: Canada’s anti-spam legislation (CASL).
While the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has recently finalized its draft regulations under CASL, Industry Canada is working towards another release date for its draft regulations.
Andy Kaplan-Myrth will be delivering prepared remarks on the status of CASL and Industry Canada’s regulations. He will then answer questions received from in-person program attendees as well as selected questions received by email.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Andy Kaplan-Myrth is a Policy Advisor in the Electronic Commerce Branch at Industry Canada and a member of the team that developed and is implementing Canada’s anti-spam legislation. Before joining Industry Canada, Andy was called to the Ontario Bar in 2005 and managed the Law & Technology Program at the University of Ottawa until 2009.
COST FOR ATTENDANCE:
Cost for lunch: ten dollars ($10) for members and students, twenty-five dollars ($25) for non-members, payable at the meeting. Receipts will be available. Cheques should be made payable to the Toronto Computer Lawyers’ Group.
