TORONTO COMPUTER LAWYERS’ GROUP – NOTICE OF MEETING

MEETING:

The next meeting of the Toronto Computer Lawyers’ Group (TCLG) for 2008-2009 is being held on Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, 199 Bay Street, Suite 2300, Commerce Court West, Toronto, Ontario.

TOPIC:      Software as a Service (SaaS) / Software + Services (S+S)

Mark Relph and Christine Ing will discuss what Software as a Service (SaaS) and Software + Services (S+S) are, and will identify and address some of the business and legal considerations that businesses and their legal advisors should consider if they are providing or purchasing SaaS or S+S.

ABOUT THE PANEL:

Mark Relph
Vice President, Developer & Platform Evangelism Group
Microsoft Canada Co.

As Vice President of the Developer & Platform Evangelism (DPE) Group in Canada, Mark Relph is focused on the evangelism of the Microsoft® platform to developers, IT professionals, designers and ISVs. The Developer & Platform Group helps Microsoft drive the early adoption of emerging elements of the Microsoft® platform and builds a robust set of technical community engagement programs such as MSDN and TechNet. Mark's team also has a focus on enhancing the ecosystem of independent software vendors in Canada, including working with startups and the venture capital community.  Mark’s group works with students and technology enthusiasts across Canada. Mark was instrumental in helping launch Canada’s first entrepreneur-focused Innovation Centre in Waterloo, ON. The Infusion Angels Innovation Centre (IAIC) aims to foster economic growth in Canada by providing students and entrepreneurs with critical resources needed to take their ideas, concepts and solutions to market.  Mark maintains a blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/mark_relph.

Christine Ing
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP

Christine Ing is a Consultant practising in the Information Technology Group at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP.  Christine regularly negotiates and drafts a broad range of commercial agreements involving intellectual property, software and hardware, including development, licensing, distribution, supply, hosting, confidentiality, technology transfer and joint venture contracts. In recent years, Christine’s practice has focused on complex technology development and licensing transactions, and on outsourcing and application service provider relationships. Christine has an engineering degree from the University of Toronto.

COST FOR ATTENDANCE:

Cost for lunch:  ten dollars ($10) for members and students, twenty dollars ($20) for non-members, payable at the meeting. Receipts will be available. Cheques should be made payable to the Toronto Computer Lawyers’ Group.

REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE CONFIRMED UNLESS THE LUNCH IS FULLY BOOKED.
Substitutions are permitted anytime. Registrants who do not attend and do not cancel or send a substitute may be invoiced for lunch.
